How much does a water meter cost to install?

There's only two of us left in a four bed now the kids have moved out so a meter should save us money. Is installation actually free from the water company or are there costs if the pipework needs altering?

"Hi Sharon.

The water undertaker in your area should provide this for you free of charge.

Meter can either go directly after the external main for your house on the street, or just inside your property..

There shouldn't be too much altering needed, if any.

Hope this helps.

"water company's should supply these free but its not a legal requirement to have a water meter the water company will badger you because they think that you will be running cheaper without one so hence the standard bill.

if any pipework needs sorting if its their side of the meter its their responsibility, if its after the meter its your responsability"

"Hi there,

This would be at no charge to yourself as this is owned by the waterboard.

If you contact your local waterboard and request more information regarding a water metre they will happily be able to assist you."
