How much does a bathroom sink replacement cost?

Our sink has a crack in it and the pedestal wobbles so it's time for a new one. What do plumbers charge to swap it like for like and should I buy the sink myself first or let them supply it?

"For a straightforward like-for-like basin and pedestal swap, I'd usually charge somewhere between £120–£220 labour, depending on how easy the job is and whether the existing pipework lines up. If it's an older house and I end up having to alter the waste, taps, or pipework, it can creep up to around £250–£350.

Personally, I'd rather supply the sink if the customer isn't set on a particular style because I know it'll come from a decent supplier, I can check all the dimensions beforehand, and if anything turns up damaged or faulty, I deal with it. It also means I can make sure the pedestal and basin actually fit together properly.

That said, if you've found a sink you love, I'm more than happy to fit one you've bought yourself. I'd just ask you to make sure it comes with everything needed (or let me know exactly what you've ordered), as sometimes budget sets don't include the fixings or waste.

If it's literally a like-for-like swap with no surprises, it's normally only a couple of hours' work."

"Hi, a like-for-like pedestal basin replacement would usually cost £150–£200 in labour, assuming the existing plumbing can be reused. If any pipework, taps, or waste need changing, I’d let you know before carrying out any additional work. I’m happy for you to supply the new sink, or I can source one for you if you prefer. Let me know if you’d like me to provide a quote."
