What are the advantages and downsides of latex primer paint?

Disadvantages of Latex Primer Paint:

May not block stains: Latex primer may not be as effective in blocking stains as oil-based primers.
May not be suitable for glossy surfaces: Latex primer may not adhere well to glossy surfaces, such as glossy tile or previously painted surfaces.
Not as durable: Latex primer may not be as durable as oil-based primers and may require touch-ups over time.

Generally Less Durable.
Less hide for stains.
Less evening out = More brush strokes/imperfections."

"Pros To Using Latex-Based Paint Perfect for DIY house painters Dries Fast Nonflammable Can be cleaned off surfaces easily Water can be used to thin it Less toxic than oil-based paint Can be found at most, if not all paint stores Cheaper than acrylic paint Latex paint needs fewer coats than oil to cover a surface Does not yellow over time"

"Best way apply latex paint is with a roller so you don’t get brush strokes as it dries quite quickly"

"The main pros are the latex primer dries very quickly and it's very easy to apply on the wall before applying the top coats. It won't peel when it's dry like a some other primers..hope that helps"

"Adventages: balances the absorbency of the substrate, increases the adhesion of topcoat paints.
Downsides: adding too much water, which may lose its properties, applying a thinner layer of paint, which reduces the opacity of the paint."

"Latex paint is good for prepping unfinished dry wall for painting. It is also less likely to peel and cracks and is fast drying paint.

The down side is that it is not as good as oil based paint as it drys to quick u end up seeing brush strokes"
