"Pigmented shellac primer is a type of primer paint that is made from a mixture of resin and denatured alcohol. It is known for its fast-drying, quick-binding, and excellent stain-blocking properties.

The major difference between pigmented shellac primer and other types of primer paint is that it is an alcohol-based primer. Unlike water-based latex primers, pigmented shellac primer dries to a hard, durable finish that provides excellent adhesion for topcoats. It is also a better option for blocking strong odors and stains compared to latex primers.

However, pigmented shellac primer is flammable and emits strong fumes, making it more suitable for outdoor or well-ventilated areas. It also requires solvents, such as denatured alcohol, for clean up, which can be more expensive and toxic compared to soap and water used for cleaning up latex primers.

In summary, pigmented shellac primer is a strong option for blocking stains and odors, but it is flammable, has strong fumes, and requires solvents for clean up."

"Primer is critical for a professional finish because it helps with adhesion and helps prevent tannins from bleeding through especially if you’re using a lighter color. Primer helps with durability and can also help block out odors."

"Pigmented Shellac primer differs from other primers in the way that it is the best to use for its stain blocking properties. Used for interior substrates and exterior spot priming. A good example is Zinnser Bin. Also excellent as an adhesion primer for hardcto stick to surfaces without the need to abrade."

"The shellac based primer is the most durable and provides the best adhesion. However, it is not recommended for exterior use, and clean up is more challenging. Water based primer is the most pleasant to use and the easiest to clean up. It is low odor, great for surfaces that are easier to adhere"
