"A parapet makes working on the roof much safer. I work for a school maintaining the roof areas and the parapet roofs are significantly more accessible. You could not normally work on the very edge of a roof without ladders or scaffolding but the parapet allows you to work from top to bottom in relative safety.
The Parapet also protects the bottom rows of tiles from wind lift in bad weather.
You do not need to fit an external guttering with a parapet as the guttering is usually built in and lined with Lead, Felt, Fibreglass, or other material.
Parapets are commonly around 600mm wide allowing you to walk around the roof for inspection and maintenance. purposes."
