We’re considering a loft conversion but worried about where the stairs would go. Is it possible to fit stairs without sacrificing an existing bedroom?

"Yes, in many cases it is absolutely possible to install a staircase to a loft conversion without sacrificing an existing bedroom. The key is careful design and smart use of under-utilised space.
Most loft staircases are positioned above the existing staircase, in a hallway, landing, or other “dead space” such as an airing cupboard or corner that is not currently in active use. This approach minimises structural changes and usually preserves all existing rooms.
Where space is tighter, compact or quarter-turn staircases can be designed to meet Building Regulations while using less floor area. In some situations, only a very small portion of a bedroom is required (often less than 1 square metre), which typically has no meaningful impact on the room’s usability or value.
Every property is different, but an experienced loft conversion designer can usually find a solution that provides safe, compliant access without the need to remove a bedroom. A site visit and layout assessment are the best way to confirm the most efficient option.

Every house is different, but with a proper survey it’s usually possible to create a compliant access route while keeping all your current bedrooms intact. The layout only becomes a challenge in a small number of properties, and even then there are normally clever workarounds."
