Insulation and ventilation in loft conversions

If I go for a high spec of insulation in my loft conversion, will I need more ventilation?

"In the UK , building regulations require adequate ventilation when installing loft insulation. This usually means installing more vents if there are not enough. Check with your local building control office to find out what you need to do for your home.

"Insulation will make the room retain more heat so it will be warmer, you may wish to increase the ventilation to support cooling in the summer months for comfort.

But it is not directly required as ventilation is generally more affected by airtightness than thermal performance."

"If you dont have breathable roofing membrane under your tiles, you will need roof vents at the top and bottom of the slope, regardless of the thickness of insulation you fit."

"If the felt is a breathable membrane under your tiles or slate then your loft will be fine whatever insulation you want to use as long as it doesn’t touch the felt"
