    Installing staircase banisters

We have just bought our first family home but the staircase is open on one side. Obviously this is unsafe so I want some sort of handrail/banister. How much will it cost to add a banister or handrail to the open ended staircase? Its 12 steps to the top. I'm not too fussed about the material, just need to know roughtly how much it would cost? How much would glass stair balustrade panels cost?

"Materials ie newel posts, base rail, hand rail etc will cost around £130 and one days labour around £160 so £300 pounds would cover it."

"It would cost around £1000 in red wood. If you were going for oak probably an extra £200/300. That’s just rough as I haven’t looked at it."
