In what way do fire regulations apply to an attic conversion?

In what way do fire regulations apply to an attic conversion? What rules need to be followed and how can I ensure that my proposed attic conversion would be in line with the regulations? Will I need to pay building control to come out and give it the all clear when the conversion is done and to sign off on it?

"You will have to have fire doors all through the house or a permanent hardwired smoke alarm.

Yes will need building control involved. They need to sign it off after completion"
