How to tell if a wooden fence can hold my plants?

How do I know if a wooden fence will be able to hold plants I want to hang from it? Is there a reliable way to figure this out?

"As all know wood does rot in the ground and specifically if it isn't treated
Provided they are solid not rotten in the ground or loose they should be fine to hold up the pots
Weight wise consider the 3x3 posts don't hold much weight"
