How to insulate garage ceiling with a room above

Question

We moved in six months ago and the room above the garage is noticeably colder than the rest of the house. Is insulating the garage ceiling the answer? How is it done?

Hi. If you install Rockwool or polystyrene sheets first then nail boards into place  this will help greatly.

If you take the garage ceiling down you can use 100 to 150mm Kingspan sheets cut and inserted between the joists. You must then replace the plasterboard using a fire resistant plasterboard.

you would need to pull up the floorboards /spanfloor  in room above to install rockwall insulation between the joists then replace floorbords/spanfloor !

I would insulate with RWA45  to help with noise and  thermal properties cut to size with insulation saw  between joists ,board garage ceiling with VCL plasterboard.

It depends. But my first guess it that it will be plasterboard ceilings. It needs removing the plasterboard and staffing the gaps in between the joists with insulation and re board.

Jenny, i would lift up the floorboards and lay the insulation (NOT FIBREGLASS) between the joists.

Id  insert insulation between joist under ther room and plasterboard applied to joist tape  and plaster the joins in the plaster board
