How to get grease off walls

The walls in our kitchen are greasy around the cooker area and normal cleaning doesn't seem to shift it. What actually works?

"I would try one part white vinegar to a bucket of water first and then most DIY stores sell grease remover."

"Often when we are decorating kitchens it's necessary to remove the grease, for this we use sugar soap, apply as per manufacturer instructions. Leave on the surfaces for an hour, then wash off with normal soapy water, then wash that off with just water if you're painting to avoid streaks."

"For greasy kitchen walls, especially around the cooker, ordinary multi-purpose cleaners often aren't strong enough because the grease has built up over time. The most effective options are:

Sugar soap – This is usually the best choice. Mix according to the instructions (or use ready-mixed), apply with a sponge, leave it for a minute or two, then wipe clean with a damp cloth. It's designed to cut through grease and prepare painted walls for decorating.

A degreaser – Products such as kitchen degreasers work very well. Spray onto a cloth rather than directly onto the wall, let it sit briefly, then wipe away. Rinse afterwards with clean water.

Warm water with washing-up liquid – If the grease isn't too heavy, a bowl of hot water with a generous squirt of washing-up liquid can be surprisingly effective. Use a microfibre cloth and change the water frequently.

If none of these remove the greasy, slightly sticky film, it's likely that the grease has penetrated the paint or mixed with years of cooking residue. In that case, the best solution is:

Wash thoroughly with sugar soap.
Allow the wall to dry completely.
Apply a stain-blocking primer.
Repaint with a washable kitchen paint.

Avoid abrasive scourers or harsh scrubbing, as they can damage the paint finish."

"Your best bet is sugar soap mix a strong version to get the worst off then a softer mix to finish stubborn areas use some bleach"
