How to fill in a pond

We’ve inherited a small pond we don’t really want, and I’m not sure if it’s just a case of chucking soil in or do I have to handle it in a special way? Don't want to waste money on getting it properly removed.

"The best way to do this would be to take the pond liner out, if the pond is concrete based the best solution would be to break the concrete up and put it in where the pond was, all depending how deep the pond is you could put stone in the bottom and then topsoil on top"

"Usually the pond will have a liner to retain the water.
1, Drain all the water out.
2, Pierce or cut the liner ideally remove if possible is to prevent moisture collecting and making a bog.
3, Fill the pond in with hard-core, broken bricks, rubble, etc. up to 4 inches below the finished height.
4, Add topsoil and seed/turf to finish."

"You can’t just dump soil in — drain the pond first, remove any wildlife, then fill gradually with rubble and soil, compacting as you go to avoid sinking later."

"Can just be filled with soil and stone and compacted after"
