How much of a fence post should be in the ground?

I'm putting up a new fence myself, but one thing I'm quite unsure about is exactly how deep I need to put these fence posts?

"For 6ft above the ground 2ft in the ground. If you go higher you will need to go deeper"

"Depends on height of the fence ,if youre going 6ft you want aleast 2ft in the ground , for example 6ft panels use 8ft posts , if youre using graveyboards as well you will need 9ft posts"
