How much does solar panel removal cost?

Our roof needs retiling and there are eight solar panels up there. What's the going rate to take them off and put them back afterwards? While they're down, should we also be doing anything to them (thinking like checking them for issues or small repairs, no idea)

Hi, depending on access, it will be a day for 1 or 2 men, to remove, and a day, for 1 or 2 men, to reconnect. Your roofer will need to install supports. When you have them down i would clean them, keep the cable ends bagged up and waterproof.

For 8 panels, I’d expect roughly £600–£1,000 for removal and refitting, depending on roof access, mounting system and whether scaffolding is already in place for the retiling.

While they’re down, it’s definitely worth having the panels and fixings inspected, checking the cables/connectors for damage, and carrying out basic electrical/visual checks. Any damaged panels, MC4 connectors, cables or mounting components can then be dealt with before everything goes back on.

The main thing is to make sure the system is properly isolated and the panels are handled safely, rather than simply disconnecting and putting them back afterwards. If the roofer is already providing scaffolding, that can make a significant difference to the overall cost.

Has the Roofer got a scaffold around the property? We could chat with the roofer
and some better roof brackets could be fitted a total cost would be in the region of £600-£700 Without looking at the Job.

Most likely 1-2 days labour, a half day off and a half day on with time for cleaning in the middle + down time for seperate visits around the roofers. It would be worth checking the strings to make sure they are generating to max efficiency and to replace any defective panels. A good clean would be helpful whilst they are down. Then to ensure bird meshing is still effective and doesn't need renewing when they are put back on. Approximately £500 with access equipment already in place
