How long is roof workmanship warranty?

I'm about to start getting quotes for a new roof and I'm keen to avoid the cowboys, even if it means I end up paying more. How long should the workmanship warranty be and how should it be backed? What else can I ask when getting quotes?

"A warranty on a new roof installation should be 10/20 years guarantee. But it depends on the materials that are being used.
20/25 years guarantee for the installation of a new roof."

"It kind of depends on what the work actually entails.
It’s difficult to say what warranty should be available.
Is it a tiled roof? Flat EPDM RUBBER.
Go with a reputable local company would be my advice. Maybe look on federation of master builders web site or similar. Go to your local merchant they may be able to help you with a few companies so you can compare."

"20 year warranty on new roofs is what our company offer"

"For a full re-roof, a reputable contractor should offer:
• Minimum: 10 years workmanship warranty
• Good standard: 10–20 years
• Some high-end or manufacturer-approved installers offer 20–25 years

If someone is only offering 1–5 years, that’s a red flag for a full replacement.

Important distinction:
• Workmanship warranty = covers installation errors.
• Materials warranty = provided by the tile/slate manufacturer (often 30–50+ years).

You want both."
