How long does a felt garage roof last?

We currently have felt on our garage roof, but I am tempted to change over to using rubber. Does a felt garage roof last longer than a rubber one? Which one would you recommend?

The lifespan of a felt garage roof depends on the quality of the materials used, the standard of installation, weather exposure, roof design and how well it has been maintained. As a general guide, a professionally installed traditional felt garage roof will usually last around 10–20 years, although a well-installed high-performance felt system can often achieve the longer end of that range.
Over time, felt roofs can deteriorate due to UV exposure, temperature changes, standing water, movement in the roof structure and general weathering. Common signs that a felt roof is reaching the end of its life include cracking, bubbling, splits, loose edges, water pooling, damp patches inside the garage, or repeated repairs being required.
When comparing felt with rubber (EPDM), both systems can provide excellent performance when installed correctly. A good quality EPDM rubber roof can often have a longer expected lifespan, commonly 25–50 years, and requires very little maintenance. However, the preparation and installation quality are just as important as the material itself. A poorly installed premium product will not outperform a correctly installed quality felt system.
The best option depends on the condition of the existing roof deck, the design of the garage, your budget and how long you intend to keep the property. In some cases, replacing with a modern three-layer felt system is a very reliable and cost-effective solution, while in other situations EPDM may be the better long-term investment.
My advice would be to have the existing roof inspected before choosing a replacement. A professional roofer should check the deck, timber structure, falls for drainage, edges and upstands before recommending a system. The aim should always be to install a roof that is correctly specified and fitted, giving you many years of reliable protection rather than simply choosing the cheapest option.

Felt roofs are usually only guaranteed for ten years however quality rubber or fibreglass roof systems have a longer life span. As a cure it installer I give twenty years  manufacturer warranty and a twenty year workmanship guarantee

A bitumen felt flat roof has a manufacturing warranty of ten years, if done properly can last way beyond its manufacture warranty easily stretching to fifteen years or even longer.

A rubber roof lasts alot longer your are garenteed by the manufacturer numerous years over the felt  also usually it would come in 1 full piece so there is less change of leaks over a felt roof as it comes in sections that need to be sealed induvidually
