How do painters protect my property?

When a painter comes by to paint on a property, what steps are usually taken to protect a property from the products being used?

"Anything that remains in the rooms to be painted which can’t be moved to get sheeted over as well as floors and other surfaces needing protection, this is the first measure to be taken before starting to paint or prep, hope this helps."
