Garage wooden doors

I've read that some garage doors are made of wood. How does this work? Isn't wood prone to rotting and vulnerable to weather damage? Or is a special type of wood used for garage doors?

"Hi luke as with any wooden product make sure whether its hard wood which lasts longer than most softwoods as long as you follow recommended manurfacturers recommendations they should last a considerable time as long as regular maintenance has been adhered to obviously different weather conditions and some tree leaves and areas can also affect the timber longevity"
