Flashing around chimney

Is it good practice to fit step and cover flashing to go over plain profile tiles (Terreal clay) rather than use traditional method using soakers and flashing not showing over tile?

"The correct method is to fit soakers and step flashing to abutment wall soakers should be code 3 lead or Alcan step flashing code 4 or above held with lead clips and pointed using lead mate."

"In order to keep the chimney dry soakers are required no matter what material you are using ie slate, tiles or plain tiles
Step flashing and cover flashing essentially are the same thing and do the same job."

"I would stick to the traditional method this works and is very effective when done correctly..."

"With using rosemary tiles you need soakers that are 7 inch long on every course on top of tiles bending them up 3 inch up the wall then use 6 inch code 4 lead for the step flashing to go over soakers"

"Hello, you must always use soakers otherwise as a secondary it will allow the water to come in, best practice is soakers and front apron, step flashing either side of chimney and then a back gutter, I would suggest getting a roofer who has the experience and skill set to do this"

"Either way is fine as long as there is enough over lap. But for aesthetics underneath the tiles looks better!!"

"You will still need soakers as there a must in waterproofing along the chimney with small tiles and a step flashing up the chimney overlapping the soakers as normal."

"Cover flashings and shakers are what should be used on small plain tiles, concrete or clay it doesn't matter. The only time flashings come on to the tile is if it's large tiles like Marley mods or Ludlow majors etc."
