Electric range cooker installations

What requirements does an electric range cooker have for installation? Is it a lot more complicated than a standard cooker or hob?

"You need to look at the rating plate on the inside of the oven door frame, this will give you the kW rating, divide this amount of kW by 230 (voltage) this will give you the amount of amps you require which could be anywhere between 40 & at the extreme end 63 amps which will require a cable between 10 & 16mm
Most ranges I have come across will quite happily run on a 10mm cable, if you have an older house, chances are the cooker will be on a 6mm cable which will therefore require replacing with 10mm and change of MCB in the consumer unit"

"Get an electrician to look at it in person and find out whilst he looks at it . Never attempt to wire in a cooker or any other appliance unless qualified and or competent. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY LETHAL"

"The main requirement would be that the isolator is of a sufficient rating to carry, and break the load to the range.

Check the size of the mcb/protective device at the fuse board and check it against the rated load of the appliance"

"If is from basic need fuse/mcb/rcd protection cable, switch and junction box. Actually the electrical connection usually is less complicated then gas."

"It all depends on how many kw the range is. For a normal hob is enough a 32 amps supply (6 mm cable). If the range is more than 8kw then you will need a 45 amps supply ( 10 mm cable)"

"There are no requirements specifically for a range cooker, it’s just a standard electrical connection but depending on what size KW it is depends on the size cable & MCB needed."

"Simple and only answer is hire an approriately qualified ELECTRICIAN. Ask to see qualifications. If they have forgot then dont hire. Remember it will be you ,not them , that could be killed when using the appliance. If further information is required just post and I willassist where possible. If somebody posts instructions IGNORE."

"Range cookers tend to be larger than conventional 4 plate cookers,, depending on the model of cooker,
Require a 30 amp isolator switch from a 32amp circuit breaker."

"It connects in the same way as a normal oven that’s on a designated 32amp circuit . However it all depends on the power demand of the range as these vary and more powerful ranges may need a 10mm cable."
