Electric oven repair cost

Quite typically the oven has decided to start giving me issues before Christmas. Never had a problem with it before, so never needed to get someone out. Who to call and what will to expect charges to be this close to the holidays

"What is the kind of issue you are experiencing. If the oven still comes on but wont heat up it could be the heating element, however I would suggest if the oven comes on but wont heat up call up the help line of the brand of oven and ask to speak with their technical team and they would advise you on if it is a power issue or something wrong with the oven and need one of their engineers out"

"Most common problem could be the heating element but the problem with replacing them is that most spare part online store will just sell a compatible part which will work but wil no correspond with the oven rating which was what I learnt when I fixed my oven."

"I’d recommend having a qualified appliance/electrical technician take a look. In many cases the issue is something simple like a heating element, thermostat, selector switch, or wiring fault, especially if the oven has never given trouble before.

What to expect cost wise:
• Call out / diagnostic fee: £50–£100
• Common repairs (elements, thermostats, switches): £120–£250 all in."

"Classic timing just before Christmas 😅 but the good news is most electric oven faults are pretty straightforward to fix.

Who to call

You’ve got two main options:

Appliance repair engineer (best choice)
Electrician (fine for basic faults, but appliance specialists tend to be quicker with diagnosis and parts)

If it’s a known brand, you can also try the manufacturer’s service team — sometimes worth it if it’s a newer oven.

What you’ll pay (UK typical costs)
Call-out / diagnostic fee: £40 – £100
Labour: £45 – £90 per hour
Average total repair: £100 – £200 for most issues

A pretty standard all-in figure is around £130 on average

Common faults & rough costs
Heating element (very common): £80 – £170
Thermostat: £50 – £150
Fan motor: £100 – £200
Control board: £120 – £300+
Christmas / urgent call-out reality

Because of the timing, expect:

Higher call-out fees
Less availability
Possible premium for same/next day

It’s not unusual to pay an extra £20–£50+ for urgent festive call-outs.

Quick honest advice
If it’s something simple like an element, it’s usually worth fixing
If you’re getting quotes £200+, it’s worth comparing against a new oven (basic ones start around £200–£300)
Bottom line

👉 Expect £80–£150 for a simple fix
👉 £150–£250 for more involved repairs
👉 More if it’s urgent over the holidays"

"It could be the element that is faulty. That will require striping the oven, replacing the element and re-assembly (anywhere between 1.5 and 3 hours work) add the cost of the element which is likely to bet around £50 (maybe more). In total you would be looking at at least £200 possibly more ..."
