Do I need underlay for a vinyl floor?

Is an underlay a necessity if I want to have a vinyl floor installed in my living room?

"Underlay isn’t necessarily required if the floor is level and the vinyl is of a certain quality and thickness. For laminate, I would go with a thicker underlay 100%, for vinyl, not really required. If the vinyl is very light or poor quality, I’d say get underlay.

Hope this helps?"

"Hi, underlay underneath vinyl floor will not work as it will make the floor too “spongy” a high heeled shoe for example would go straight through bursting the vinyl"

"Not necessarily! The vinyl requires a flat and firm surface underneath."

"Vinyl flooring does not require underlay unless its the click stuff which I personally think is an excuse for a floor"

"Hi.
As long as the floor you’re putting the vinyl on to is nice and level then there should be no need for underlay although it doesn’t harm it if you put it down but I certainly wouldn’t if the floor is level enough which it should be."

"Hi Simon,
it's not required, underlay is not necessary to have a vinyl floor installation."

"Underlay. Most vinyl floors don't need an underlay. If the surface you're laying on is level and smooth, a well-cushioned vinyl floor should be fine on its own. Our Pindwarbros Luxury Vinyl Click flooring is laid using the same technique as laminate options in that it's loose-laid creating a "floating floor""

"Definitely not!!! Vinyl has to be installed on a firm-level subfloor"

"You can get acoustic underlay and fit for vinyl for example from poly floor ."

"Hi

If you put underlay under vinyl flooring then that would make vinyl feel soft & it will get damaged to easily with heels & with legs of chairs & dining table.

Best results will be achieved only if floor is flat & solid.

Thank you"
