Carpet vs hardwood flooring cost

we're redoing the whole downstairs and cant decide between carpet or solid wood. which actually works out cheaper once you factor in how long each lasts?

"Obviously with this both will wear over time and i personally would say carpet due to the fact of wood will wear and tear and splinter and thats the last thing u want to step on"

"Carpet is initially a lot cheaper but the longevity of hardwood means in the long run it’s probably the better option . Can be sanded and re finished multiple times"

"Carpet would be cheaper but solid wood will be quite a bit dearer but last a lot longer,also if you do go down the solid wood route you can have it sanded down and resealed, hope this helps"
