Decorating skimmed walls

Will I need to do any prep work before decorating after my walls have been skimmed? What should I expect? I will be papering and painting in different places.

"Once your walls/ceiling have been skimmed allow a week or more if the plaster is still dark, once completely dry 50/50 white paint and water. That is called white wash. I always do 2-3 coats before applying just normal based paint."

"Walls need a light key applying buy a light sanding, good for the paper also good to key the paint. As most plasterers will leave walls polished, be like trying paint glass"

"Give the plaster at least 5-7 days to dry out until its a uniform colour (light pink.)
You may need to give the walls a little sand with some 120-180 grit sandpaper, to give the paint a nice a key (not absolute necessary) to take off any snots or minor highspots left by the the plastering. If its a good job then see below...

Just ensure the walls are mist coated for the first coat, add water into your first batch of paint to seal the surface when using emulsion, this way the rest of the coats should adhere nicely and not dry out your paint. Ensure cutting in on the angles of the wall you are doing and around any sockets and switches."

"You can mix up a weak mixture ov wallpaper paste and water 75% water and appply that on new plaster .this does 2 things .it seals the new plaster and allso if wallpapering makes it easier as it gives more slide when papering as the paste on the paper does not suck into the new plaster as quickly"

"Water down the paint 50-50 and mix well the give walls and ceiling one coat that seals it also if your wallpapering you can size the walls by adding a coat of the glue on walls first"
