"If the artex is a thick heavy pattern then overboard it and then plaster .
If it’s a tight thin covering of artex then apply a pva glue twice , once to seal it up and then minute’s prior to plastering it .no need to board"

"It's better to over board than to plaster directly plaster over artex. The board still needs finished with plaster."

"if its a light pattern in the artex and there is no obvious signs that the artex has blown or flaked and cracked then a strong poly vynal acetate painted over should seal the artex in and could be plastered, over if it shows signs of any signs that i have mentioned than over board and skim is a better option unless you have coving up then you have to weigh the cost of boarding and then new coving being reolaced , hope this answers your query many thanks paul amasos plasterers"

"It's easier to prep and plaster on the top of the Artex as if you close it with plasterboard will be more expensive and will take longer!!!"
