How can I fix a squeak on the stairs? They're wood stairs circa 1930s, so I assume something is loose. But there's nothing obvious. What should I be looking for?

Hello everyone. I’ve seen these custom built bunk beds for my kids but I’m wondering if its cheaper or better to purchase ready made furniture or to hire a carpenter to build them? What will be more cost effective?
Can i nail into a roof truss?
Can I nail 1/4" plywood against the side of a roof truss to close a hole? Or is it better to use screws? Or can I use a combination of glue and some kind of fastener?
