Hi. We recently had insulation done in a small extension that has a small apex roof. The man doing all the work for us, advised us that we could heighten our internal ceiling by removing the ceiling joists before putting the insulation in. We had a back and forth about safety and he said cause it’s a small roof, there wouldn’t be too much weight on it. It’s about twenty five square metres of a space. He said that he could cut out blocks of wood and screw them in between each rafter so that each rafter was connected to another one with a small block of wood between them, but no collars or joists. Insulation went in, plastering completed and now about 4 months later, large hairline cracks are appearing in various spots on the roof, one side to the other. Got worse after a storm. Were we played for fools by listening to him? And will it eventually collapse or spread so much that it cracks much worse?
Please can you advise who draws up the plans for small extensions for Builders to follow.
What type of cladding best suits a semi-detached house, peddledash, lime or polymer? How do these options compare and what are their pros & cons? Which do you think I should choose and why? Thank you!
Hi, How much (approximately) would it cost to install an RSJ to an external load bearing wall between a dining room and extension in order to open the dining room into the kitchen? This is to make an L shaped kitchen diner. This job would involve the removal of a wall below the RSJ, approximately 7ft x 6ft.
I would like an idea of price to remove a decorative fireplace and make good the wall to potentially mount a tv in place
My bedroom has no door frame at the moment and 2 walls need plastered they are down to the brick /masonry Do I get a joiner in first for the new doorframe/architrave or get the plaster work done first ? Thanks
Sorry if my question is daft and long House is not new building Want to move wall so bathroom is smaller and bedroom is bigger therefore want to reuse doors where possible. I imagine will need new flooring in Bathroom and part floor in bedroom. it has laminate. Will also need new bathtub and sink Need it done in stages due to financial reasons and so kids including a disabled person have access to bathing so bathtub installation will need to be the last step. My question What steps will need to be followed to achieve the above. Ideally want 1 to 2 steps per month. How much am I looking at spending overall?
Who would I need to come out to look at a damp patch in my kitchen? I'm guessing rising damp on a wall that used to be external, now part of extension. Would it be a builder or a damp specialist? Thanks
