Can you wallpaper over paint?

I want to add some feature wallpaper to the living room but it's currently painted. Does the paint need to come off first or can wallpaper go straight over a painted wall?

Yes you can wallpaper over a painted wall, however what the other decorators fail to mention in your preparation you must size the walls. What is sizing? Sizing a wall before is using the same wallpaper paste mix with water and applying it to the walls that you are papering.  Appl 2 coats and leave to dry over night before your papering.
