Accent lighting ideas

What is accent lighting? What are some examples of accent lights and where can I buy them? Are these the sorts of lights that I can fit DIY or will I need to higher a professional light installer? Thanks in advance.

"Accent lighting focuses light on a particular area or object. It is often used to highlight art or other artefacts. Common types of accent lights include wall sconces, floodlights, recessed lights, torchère lamps, or track lighting. The brighter light from the accent lamp creates visual interest to a room."

"Hi Jackie.
All depends on what would you like to "accent" with this lighting. There are three types of lighting:
Ambient. Also known as general lighting, ambient lighting is an extremely important factor for any interior space. This type of lighting is commonly used as the gateway to a clear vision with the main aim to emit strong light into the room, allowing all inhabitants to safely navigate around.

Task. Task lighting is what it says on the tin, a light for you to achieve specific goals or to aid you with light in tricky situations or poorly lit areas. Task lighting is usually dotted around the house where main ambient lighting just isn’t necessary, either in terms of application or brightness. Task lighting can range from under cabinet lights, guidance lights, table lamps or bollard lights for the garden. They are less for decorative purposes and more for practicality.

And last but not least Accent. Accent lighting is for those that want to create extra drama and character to their most cherished areas or objects. Applying accent lighting will draw further attention toward what you want to stand out. These lights are made to tweak the presentation and stature of already existing items or areas within the home or garden. Accent lighting is often used in commercial and professional arenas, where businesses or artists look to highlight products and artwork by using light to accentuate image and style. It’s a bit like make-up, especially eye shadow or mascara, where the sole purpose is to make feature’s more prominent, attractive and desirable.
I hope that helps. Best Wishes."

"Hi. Firstly I would definitely advise you to go to a professional lighter, or go to a shop that specialises in lighting I think that would help you alot. Secondly, accent lighting is used to focus on a particular area, such as art work, sculptures etc. Hope that helps."

"Intended to highlight a specific object or area, accent lights are typically three times as bright as ambient lights. Accent lighting draws attention to a feature, such as artwork, furnishings or architectural details, converting them into focal points.

There are four main types of lighting that are used in a retail setting: Ambient, Task, Accent and Decorative.

"Accent lighting can be anything from LED strip lighting to under counter lights.

Commonly used as an alternative lighting source within a room or bring attention/create a focal point in a room ie a feature wall, artwork etc.

LED strip lighting can come with battery packs or anything you plug into a socket you'd obviously be able to plug in yourself but if you wanted to install a downlight or lighting from your mains power you'd need a qualified electrician in to do it to be able to test and sign the work off legally."

"It focuses light on a particular area or object. Some examples are wall sconces, recessed lighting. Should be able to purchase at most lighting shops, I would always hire a tradesman for anything electrical if you don’t know what you're doing. Hope this helps"

"Hi

Check B&Q where you can see them and test most of them.

I would defiantly call a qualified electrician for the job.
