  • How often does my alarm need testing?

How frequently should I test out an alarm system? And what if it doesn’t work, how can I diagnose the issue and figure out if it’s a small issue or one that means the whole system has to be replaced?

How to avoid headaches from paint fumes?

I hope to get the downstairs of my house painted in full at some point. I was wondering (as this was an issue for me before), how I can reduce the risk of getting bad headaches from the fumes in the days after the painting is done?

    Plaster over Zinsser Gardz

I’m trying to prepare walls ready for a plasterer to come in and skim coat. I’ve taken off wallpaper back to the old skim coat, and the adhesive is a nightmare to get off. I’m not confident there won’t be residue left, so was going to apply gardz to solve that problem. Can a skim coat go straight over gardz, or will I need to PVA/SBR/Blue grit as well?

    Door frame sealing

Hi, I painted my wooden, stable front door and noticed that the door frame has been installed and gaps sealed with transparent sealant. It has been done by the previous owners a few years ago. I wanted to seal the gaps with something to prevent water and cold air getting into the porch. I looked for a proper gap filler. What would you use which looks better than self-expandable foam?
