I’m not confident there won’t be residue left, so was going to apply gardz to solve that problem. Can a skim coat go straight over gardz, or will I need to PVA/SBR/Blue grit as well?

Hi, I painted my wooden, stable front door and noticed that the door frame has been installed and gaps sealed with transparent sealant. It has been done by the previous owners a few years ago. I wanted to seal the gaps with something to prevent water and cold air getting into the porch. I looked for a proper gap filler. What would you use which looks better than self-expandable foam?
