  • Window Lintel Installation

Hello there. There are no Lintels above my windows just a row of bricks held in only by the cement. I need to change out the windows but want to know if i need to fit a concrete lintel? Is there an alternative to support the bricks above so i dont need to remove them and add in the lintel? Any advice would be appreciated.

    Sanding or Planing

I have a raised bed made of railway sleepers (it's been there years). It seems to have moved slightly and the garden gate now catches and can't be opened without real force. Should I sand or plane the railway sleeper? Or the gate?

    Wood undercoat before satin wood

I have arranged for someone to paint my h/s/l and the ceiling as I have health issues I can’t do it myself. I said do the woodwork myself I can manage that. I have 2 bannisters on my stair one has been up for years and well painted over the other is new and been painted once by my partner, he didn’t use primer and the painter who is coming said I’d be better using it before doing the satin wood. Do I need to undercoat every where doors skirtings etc or just the bannister? And do I sand it down first? Thanks

Render repair or complete re render

Can render be repaired. I have some areas of render which is coming off, does it all have to be re-rendered or could it be repaired. I feel that a builder wouldn’t want to repair and therefore it would be a costly job to have the front and side of house re done. Will take advice off expert.
