Boiler Heat Exchanger - fix or replace

I have a fourteen-year-old Worcester boiler that is leaking a bit. This has been diagnosed as a fault with the heat exchanger. The boiler is still working. So, is it better to repair with a new heat exchanger or replace the boiler? Can someone give a rough estimate of the relative cost differential?

It’s had some basic water damage which have turned created a few dark patches (from some leaks of the sink above). Should I replace these doors or are they possible to clean up, repair & repaint? If I can repaint them, what types of paint are best to use? Thanks

What is the correct mortar mix for a brick BBQ?

Hi all I am working on building my own brick barbecue at the moment. I have a completed base of concrete and now trying to sort a good mortar mix. I’ve been told to use a ratio of 6:2:1 of sand:lime:cement, but does not seem to have turned out as I had hoped which dries exceptionally quickly and does not bind with the bricks to stick together. Has anyone any advice or suggestions? Should I try a different ratio for the mix?

What is the best way to clean or repair patches on stonework?

Hello I have stone walls for my house which have been damaged and eroded over time that may need refiling, with some small patches of decolourisation in some areas from erosion/damage over time. These are Bath stone walls specifically and, where possible, I would like to resolve this myself. Are there any suitable materials that I can use without damaging the stonework?

    RCD keeps tripping

My RCD keeps tripping and I can't find anything obvious that's doing it. Most of the appliances have been unplugged and I still can't figure it out. The entire system trips and not just a single fuse. Does anyone have any advice on how to find the fault?

Does a gas hob need to be fitted by a Gas Safe registered engineer?

Hello all I am in the process of kitchen renovations at the moment and will need a new gas hob to be installed. I had thought his would be a task only a Gas Safe registered engineer would be able to do legally, however the builder involved in my renovation work tells me that it is a simple change of disconnecting the old hob and reconnecting to the new, so it would be too minor to need a specialist and that he could do it himself. Is this the case, or am I having the wool pulled over my eyes? I’d like to hear from the horse’s mouth on this, from actual engineers.
