    Turf gravel garden

What is typically involved in converting a gravel garden (soil underneath) into a regular grass garden? How much would it cost to have done, assuming the garden is thirty-two square metres? Is it cheaper than getting artificial grass? How long does the process usually take? Is the quality of turf used hugely important? How do I know if the installer is using good quality turf?

    Glazed extension query

I like the idea of a glazed extension. But how do you make sure it doesn't get too hot or cold like conservatories tend to?

How much to hang internal bifold door?

Hi I have an Internal LPD top hung bi-fold door. It needs assembling and fitting to the doorway. Doorway is 100mm too high so will need filling to reduce height. There is no wooden frame on the wall, although a frame has been provided with the door. What would be a fair charge for this Job? I'm based in Nottingham.

Tiling a floor onto old stone flags/bare earth.

We have an old stone floor, with a few gaps between them, which I believe is laid straight onto the bare earth. I don't want the flags so need to cover it before tiling with large wood effect tiles. Do I put a damp proof membrane down first before a self levelling compound or would you advise putting something down to seal the floor before adding the membrane and SL compound.

Wet garage - identifying source(s) of water

Hi, We have bought a house with a single garage with an asbestos roof that has holes in it and needs replacing. We are trying to decide on our best options as, ideally, we want to end up with a secure, dry and insulated space that can be sectioned off so we have an office/garden room at the back and plenty of storage space for furniture, gardening equipment etc at the front. What we cannot determine is whether the wetness within the garage is purely down to a leaky roof or whether there is also water coming up through the concrete floor. The garden is prone to flooding in certain sections, including behind the back corner of the garage. Is a builder the right trade to get in to look at this for us? We are conscious that anyone that comes out is likely looking to do the work but at this stage we are just looking for an honest appraisal so we can consider our options. Cheers.

Hang internal doors to a metal frame

I have recently moved into a council house, I don’t have a single door that closes properly and most don’t have handles. I really need to replace the bedroom doors, however the frames are metal with the hinges welded on. As I don’t own the house I really don’t want to go to the expense of replacing all the frames, is it possible to hang new doors onto the existing frame?
