Why is the paint peeling off wall when rolling?

The wall looked fine before I started, so I’m confused why the new paint is pulling it off underneath

"It’s because when it was originally painted was not seeped correctly best thing is put Zinsser guardzvon it first then should stop peeling off"

"I would assume poor preparation is the cause. Contaminants on the surface also different paint types can cause this so proper preparation is even more vital."

"because the new, wet paint is re-activating or pulling away old, loosely adhered paint, or because of a fundamental issue with the surface preparation or moisture."

"Old paint could be satin or oil or dirt with grass or old paint can be very old"

"depending what type of surface is under the original wall cover. if its a new build and in bathroom or toilet it could that the plastered board is damp proof and needs to dry for a couple of days on each coat. if it's an older property it could be distemper and needs washing with soap and water be applying coat"

"Because the previous job is a silk ,so silk paint its like this when you try to paint again on top of silk paint start peeling of, just remove some part that start peeling of and fix with filler after sanding carry on with painting."

"This usually happens because the new paint is reactivating a weak layer underneath.

Common causes:

• The existing paint wasn’t properly bonded to the plaster
• The wall was dusty or contaminated
• Cheap contract matt underneath
• No mist coat on new plaster
• Painting over silk or vinyl without sanding
• Moisture in the wall

When you roll, especially with a slightly sticky paint, the roller can literally pull the old paint off if it hasn’t adhered properly.

Fix:
You’ll need to scrape back all loose areas, sand the edges smooth, seal with a stabilising primer (like Zinsser Gardz or similar), then repaint.

If it’s happening across the whole wall, it’s usually a prep/bonding issue rather than your technique."
