Why is my water tank not filling up?

The cold water tank in the loft seems to be running low and isn't refilling properly. We can hear it trying to fill but it's very slow?

"It's sounds as if the ball valve stuck
Either replace or try pulling the arm up and down carefully
Could release"

"A new float valve would be needed if the kitchen mains is still correctly running at the same flow rate/pressure."

"New float valve to be installed to the cold main entering the tank, the washer is most likely perished blocking the fill valve, making it slow to fill"

"From the description i would assume there is an issue with the Float valve"

"Hi. The most common reason for this is due to the filling mechanism been lime scaled up. This causes the water to enter the tank more slowly.

The filling mechanism is usually a part 2 filling mechanism which is bent with a float ball on the end. Or a part 1 filling mechanism which is straight with a float ball

Sometime the line scale can be cleaned out to resolve the filling problem, but to be sure you need to replace the full filling mechanism. Like for like.

"Hello. Usually the reason is in the filling mechanism. Limescale deposits and aging rubber valves are common reasons for the tank to fill slowly."

"Is the ball valve moving freely? It will more than likely the ball will need a replacement."

"By your description I would guess that it’s one of 2 problems and the first one is that the ballcock is old and faulty, maybe only got a dribble of water coming from the ballcock or my second thought is that the standpipe is passing water but you would notice water coming out from just below your gutter but that’s what I guess is happening."

"Possibly a faulty fill valve. Plumber required to investigate further"
