What types of paint finish would best suit a garden wall?

What types of paint finish would best suit a garden wall? Does it depend on the material of the wall? And do you need to choose ‘exterior paints’ in particular or are most paint products suited to indoor and outdoor environments?

"If you want to have the perfect paint finish for the surface of the wall, oil-based paint is the best choice. It has good durability. The finished look from this paint is rich and has an attractive gloss"

"If it is brick that is unpainted then i suggest either to seal the brickwork to make it less porous with PVA or a decent brick primer ,i use Piolite solvent based masonry paint which is excellent and use a thinned down coat to paint smaller walls like a garden wall , but if you prime or seal first then a water based Masonry paint will suffice Sandtex is good and so is Dulux Weathersheild ,if however your wall is rendered then you can use water based or solvent based masonry paint straight on top as long as its clean and free of moss or Dirt"

"A smooth finish exterior paint such as Dulux Weathershield works best in my opinion, it also carries a dulux guarantee but to get the best finish use the dulux stabilising soulution first, this will stabilise the walls and stop uneven dry patches and your paint will go a lot further. Using this product and method will resist mold and moss growth, make sure the wall is completely dry first."
