What should I do if a radiator isn’t heating at all?

I’ve got central heating on but one radiator doesn’t warm up. Checked the rest and they're all heating fine. Is there anything I can try myself before calling someone?

"Hi Robert

Without understanding the situation I would say that bleeding it would be the first step"

"you don't need to
it would appear your radiator system isn't balanced"

"If you have a trv valve
Try removing the head and pressing the pin in and out"

"You’ll need turn off all the radiator by the trv in house but keeping that one open and ensure the locks shield valve is full open

If the radiator feel cold from the top and warm in the bottom you have trap air in that radiator so you’ll need to bleed it out

If the radiator start to warm from the top and cold at the bottom then the heating system may have slurry

If the radiator doesn’t get warm after 30min then it’s possible you may have a faulty trv and would require further investigation
But try removing the trv head it should twist off and hit the pin hard and then feel of the radiator it should start warming up"

"If the radiator is warm at the bottom and the top is cold then this indicates that there is air in the radiator and it needs to be vented by the vent key
If the radiator is cold at the top and cold at the bottom, then there is potential other issues which would then require an engineer"

"Try bleeding radiator to check if it is full of air, if all other rads working OK turn them off to force water to this radiator only to remove any potential blockage from pipework. Remove trv (if it has one) and check if pin is stuck into the valve shutting it off. Release pin if stuck. If these don't work potentially need to book engineer"

"Turn off all other trvs on radiators to push flow to that one radiator once it heats up turn all radiators back on"

"Step one, make sure the valves are open.

Step two, once you have established that the valves are open, bleed the radiator.

Step three, if you valve carried out 1 & 2 and no improvement contact a heating engineer.

Hope this helps"

"You will need to balance the heating system. Close the lockshield of the radiators close to boiler then wait if the radiator that's not working to heat. Once it's working, start by opening the lockshield"
