Air source vs ground source heat pump cost

We are replacing an ageing oil boiler and cannot decide between the two systems. I understand ground source costs more to install, but how much more in practice, and do the lower running costs ever make up the difference?

You would need to have a proper survey done for either system. Ground source will be more expensive, but is generally a more efficient system, depending on how you set your house up. If you are planning on staying in the house for the long term, and can afford the extra cost, my preference would be the ground source heat pump.

You would need a full survey done, you can’t just use your existing radiators etc, for it it to work properly. If you use a government approved installer, you can normally claim back around £5000 towards it.
