What setting should my boiler be on for Hive?

Do I need to change the temperature or mode for this smart thermostat to work properly?

"The setting you need to adjust on your boiler is the Central Heating Flow Temperature (sometimes just labelled with a radiator icon). This controls the temperature of the water sent to your radiators, which the Hive then manages to reach your desired room temperature."

"There is usally an ‘E’ setting on the temperature dial or maybe a green leaf this is the most economic setting for any heating controls

Hope this helps"

"For a Hive system, your boiler should be set to "ON" (permanently on, controlled by the Hive thermostat) or "TIMED" (following a manual schedule) and the central heating flow temperature on the boiler itself should be set to around \(60\) to \(65\)°C,"

"I would recommend your boiler temp to be set at +-60 degrees and set to your hive to allow thermostat to adjust heating and hot water accordingly."

"You want to wire it to open therm and then set room temperature to 19 °C
Set boiler flow temperature to 60 °C"

"Set you boiler to 80% - 90% of max temperature and adjust temp on smart thermostats."

"To get the most out of your Hive system, you need to adjust two things: the Mode (so Hive is in charge) and the Flow Temperature (so your boiler runs efficiently).

1. The Boiler "Mode" (The Switch)
If your boiler has its own internal timer or a physical switch that says On / Off / Timed, you should set it to "ON" (sometimes labeled as "Constant" or "24hr").

Why? You want the boiler to be "ready and waiting" for a signal from the Hive. If the boiler is set to its own "Timed" schedule, it might be switched off when the Hive is trying to turn the heating on.

Don't worry: Setting it to "ON" won't make your heating run 24/7; the Hive receiver will act as the new gatekeeper, only letting the boiler fire up when your schedule or thermostat demands heat.

2. The Flow Temperature (The Efficiency)
This is the temperature of the water sent to your radiators (usually marked with a radiator icon). Most boilers are set too high (around 75°C–80°C) out of the box.

The "Sweet Spot": Set this to 60°C.

Why? Modern condensing boilers are most efficient when the water returns to the boiler at a lower temperature (allowing them to "condense" and recycle heat). If the flow is too high, you’re essentially throwing money out of the flue pipe.

The Trade-off: At 60°C, your radiators won't feel "scalding" to the touch, and the house may take slightly longer to warm up (about 15 minutes extra), but you can save up to 9–12% on your gas bill.

Note for Homes with Hot Water Tanks: If you have a separate hot water cylinder (not a combi), do not turn the hot water dial (tap icon) below 60°C, as this is required to prevent Legionella bacteria. Only lower the radiator flow temperature.

3. Hive Settings to Check
Once the boiler is set, make sure these two features are enabled in your Hive app for the best experience:

Ready By: Found in the Heating settings. This tells Hive to learn how long your house takes to warm up. If you want it 20°C at 7:00 AM, Hive will figure out if it needs to start at 6:15 AM or 6:40 AM based on the outside weather.

Frost Protection: Usually set to 7°C by default. Keep this on to protect your pipes if you go away during winter."
