Turf rooting time

It’s been nearly two weeks and the grass looks good, but I’m not sure if it’s properly rooted yet. How long does it usually take to settle in?

"It is in the attaching phase. 4 to 6 weeks and it will be fully attached."

"On the safe side I would wait the full 4 weeks so there are little to no weak areas and the whole lawn will have an even rooting"

"1. Initial rooting (about 2–3 weeks):

The roots will start to grow down into the soil and anchor themselves.

You can usually test this after about 14–21 days by gently tugging a corner — if it resists, the roots are grabbing on.

2. Deep rooting & establishment (about 6–8 weeks):

Roots grow deeper and become strong enough to handle regular mowing and light foot traffic.

By this point, the grass can handle slightly less frequent watering without stress.

📌 Tips for checking & helping it along:

Lift test: Gently lift a small edge — if it comes up easily, it needs more time.

Watering: Keep it consistently moist but not soggy in these first few weeks.

No heavy use: Avoid walking or placing heavy objects on it until it’s well anchored.

If yours is looking good at two weeks, it’s probably in the early rooting stage now — you’re halfway to being able to treat it like established lawn."

"Hi Sharon, your turf will have started to root in two weeks.
The grass will continue to root until it satisfies its need for nutrients.

"You should by now when you lift your turf, start to see roots that are growing from them if so just keep plenty of water on them in the evenings James from CGM."

"Hello Sharon, grass takes about 2 to 3 weeks to properly root and settle in after being planted or sodded. During this time, the roots establish themselves in the earth/soil, which helps the grass become more resilient and also healthy.

Since it's been nearly two weeks for your grass, it’s likely it is on the right track, but you might want to continue to water it consistently (but not excessively) and avoid heavy foot traffic aswell as this will give it the best chance to fully root.

If you notice the grass lifting easily or patches and not staying down, it might need a bit more time or extra care.

I hope this helps
