Smoothing over Artex

I've seen someone on Instagram smoothing over their Artex with Polyfilla. It looks OK to me. Is there any issue with doing this?

"Best thing to do would be to blue grit the walls, which is a pva primer but with small bits of aggregate( grit)in it, enabling a good key for the plaster to adhere too. Better than just a standard pva water mix.

Filling with polyfilla would be very time consuming, the wrong product to use, plus you would need to sand down the filler after and some artex used back in the day had small amounts of asbestos in it …."

"Hi, a lot of sanding down to prepare the gills for painting will probably be required, once painted is when it will really show if it’s good or not. I would advise plastering over the artex if possible BUT please be sure to check if your artex contains asbestos before you do anything!"

"There’s nothing wrong with using Polly filler. Would just be a lot cheaper, easier and time efficient to have it plastered."

"Definitely not with polyfilla you'd have to sand it it flat with an electric sander after polyfilla , what you do depending on thickness get plasterer to skim coat walls using 2 coats of multi -finish plaster also walls must be sealed first with a PVA solution"

"Skimming over artex is a good way to achieve flat finish rather than pulling down a ceiling or re-boarding"

"its not an issue as such, but it will take a long time for a full wall or ceiling filled with polyfilla compared to having it poly bonded and skimmed completely smooth , we have done lot of work which is covering artex with no pronlems or after effects , cheers paul"
