Shower screen over bath

Hello,

I am wanting to fit a shower screen myself. I am always wary of wires behind walls/pipes ect. Can anyone tell me if there is likely to be anything behind directly where I want to drill please? It would be at the start of the tiled wall where a shower screen goes. I have a shaver socket 3 + 1/2 inches away from the shower.

"Hi ,
Usually wires runs vertically in to the walls
So you should be alright as already away from the socket .
Surely u can do it !
Have a lovely day"

"Hello,
As with any drilling into walls or floors, there is always a risk of hitting buried pipes or wires.

You just have to be cautious and use a touch of common sense.

Pipes will generally go up from taps to a shower in line with the taps,

Cold water pipe to tank in loft sometimes in the corner of a wall at bottom end of bath.

This leaves electric, and you have a socket not far.

So 2 things.

Don't drill level to the socket in case wire runs horizontal.

Don't drill too deep. Screws don't need to go in wall deeper than the rawplug.

If you want to ease your mind a bit, take socket plate off and you will see if wires run up and down in wall. Or horizontal.

Cheers."

"Hi, if the electrics were done properly there should be no wires running where the screen will go. Normally you have the wires coming in straight lines. Down from the ceiling or the up ftom the floor. If uncertain you can use the wire/ metal detector to double check."

"So, switches have the wires coming from and going to the ceiling, water pipes can run vertically from floor to ceiling. In the bathroom you are pretty safe, but I'd say just do it centrally on the side of the wall that doesn't have the knobs."

"Personally I wouldn’t attempt without someone checking as nobody knows where the shower pipes have been put either. Better to be safe than sorry!"

"You are best to get a wall scanner this will pin point stud work brick or wires hidden behind"

"Hello, I suspect that there are no cables or pipes behind the tiles in this place."

"Electrical wires usually run horizontal and vertical from any fixture, stay away from all these areas. There are some good help guides online showing you the likelihood of where to find wires. Always use a stud finder to check for voltage before drilling and get a professional in if you're even slightly unsure"

"There shouldn't be as others have said, but if you loosen the shaver socket you will be able to see which direction the wires are coming from."
