Can you hang a TV on a stud wall?

I want to wall mount a TV in the bedroom but I think the wall is stud. Is it strong enough to take the weight, and how do you find the studs reliably?

"To answer your question, yes you can hang a television on a stud wall, however there are a few things that you need to make sure of when mounting the wall bracket.
The standard uk distance between studs is between 400mm and 600mm this distance shpuld be thenventre to ventre measurementnfrom.stud.to studI would suggest buying a stud finder from screw fix wickes of b and q.
When you find a stud.use a pencil ro lightly mark its position use a tape measure from the edge of the wall and you should either see a number divisible by 400 mm ( 40 cm) or 600mm ( 60cm).
Next decide where you want the TV to be mounted as you will have to use these studs to securely anchor the bracket .
Finally ( having double checked your measurements with a tape measure , the studs location with a stud finder, and that the location will be level.with a long spirit level drill into the studs and mount the bracket double checking it is secure before mounting your tv"

"You absolutely can there are several ways of finding the stud but in all honesty you do not need to.

If it is more of a permanent fixing you can use fixings called grip it excellent fixings used them for 60 inch TVs"

"Yes, you can definitely mount a TV on a stud wall as long as it is fixed securely into the timber studs. I would always recommend using a stud detector to locate the studs properly before drilling. Once the bracket is fixed into the wooden studs with the correct fixings, it will be strong and safe for the TV."

"Hi,
it is absolutely ok to hang a TV on a stud wall - it requires proper anchors for the job. I have never had anny issues with toggle or Gripit anchors."

"You could use a joist detector to find the joists.
You can also buy butterfly fixings that are designed to hang mirrors/tv’s etc on plasterboard walls"

"Hi you can buy fittings that can take weight up to 30kg so that would work. Also when fitting sometimes its better to try and find the beam with a tool that way you are securing the bracket on to the wood. Hope this helps"

"Yes — absolutely, you can hang a TV on a stud wall. It’s really common now. The important part is how it’s fixed and what’s behind the plasterboard.
For a normal stud wall, a proper installer/plasterer would usually do one of these:
Fix directly into the timber studs behind the wall (best option)
Use heavy-duty plasterboard fixings if the TV is lighter
Add a plywood backing board behind the plasterboard if building/remodelling"
