Should you paint radiators?

Is it OK to paint a standard radiator? Thinking of going dark blue. Does this impact its effectiveness?

"Yes, it is absolutely OK to paint a standard radiator, even in a dark colour like dark blue, and it will not noticeably affect how well it heats the room if it’s done properly. Radiators work mainly by convection, which means cold air is drawn in at the bottom, heated as it passes through the radiator, and then released as warm air at the top. This air movement is responsible for most of the heat in the room. Only a small part of the heat comes from direct radiation from the surface, so the colour of the radiator has almost no practical effect on heating performance. Dark colours do not reduce heat output in real-life conditions, and any theoretical difference is so small that it cannot be felt in a normal home."

"Hi. As long as there's no paint coming off from the existing radiator and you use the radiator paint for the new colour you won't be noticing any difference in the heat output."

"Yes, it is perfectly okay to paint your radiator dark blue, and it will not negatively impact its heating effectiveness. In fact, the science shows that the darkness of your chosen color is a slight advantage, as darker, matte colors are technically the most efficient at emitting heat.

The effectiveness depends almost entirely on the type of paint you use, not the color. Using the wrong kind of paint can reduce its heat output."

"Yes, you can paint standard radiators and I does not impact its effectiveness, but best to use special radiator paint (oil based)

And you will need to apply atleast 3 to 4 coats to cover well in dark shade."
