Sealing stone tiles

Do stone tiles always need to be sealed?

"Natural stone does require sealing before installation. This helps protect the surface of the stone from collecting dirt, adhesive and grout during installation. Natural stone also needs sealing periodically after installation to ensure the beauty of the stone is preserved."

"All stone and tile products benefit from being sealed. Due to their porous nature, natural stone should be sealed using a high quality penetrating sealer."

Smartseal supply a complete range of grout cleaners and grout sealing products. You can quickly improve the look and appearance of stained grout on stone floors and wall tiles. "The short answer is yes.

Until the tiles are sealed they are very porous, making them much harder to clean and leaving them vulnerable to staining and damage. In my experience natural stone tiles come up very nicely with sealant although I would recommend working it in by hand with a microfibre cloth to ensure it gets into the crevices."
