Ronseal Fence One coat

My decking has been painted with Ronseal Dark Oak fence cover. Is there anything I can paint on top of it to seal it?

"An opaque paint would be best for decking as it is much harder wearing"

"Great question that many people would probably like to know!

Most fence paint products from Ronseal say that the paint will last and protect for 5 years providing you have applied two coats of paint.

In answer to your question, Ideally you would paint a wood preserver on the deck prior to painting. That would give you extra life and protection for your deck and as a rule you could use this process for most external timber, such as fence panels, fence posts, sheds etc. I hope this helps. Good luck on any further DIY projects."

"The Ronseal One Coat Fence Paint is waxy and is designed to repel water and such, however as it’s designed for fences and not decking you may find that it wears quite quickly when being walked on. The best option is to paint it with a decking specific paint.

If you’re wanting to seal what’s already been done, No Nonsense do a clear decking and sealant protector that works great for going over stained decking. Ronseal one also, but it’s designed more to go onto bare wood and has a tint to it so it can change the appearance of the colour you’ve already painted."

"Hi Neil…..The first l would have to do is to power wash your decking let it dry and apply when weather permitting two coats of decking sealant of your choice…
From Dulux centre or B&Q …..All the best…"

"Hi there I am just making you aware that decking isn't supposed to have a "seal" on the top or any floor surface for that matter as it affects grip. The wood needs too allow the water too soak through otherwise a sealed top would prevent it from proper drainage and would become very slippery. And also if you would like to paint it again in the future you would have too strip back the seal back too wood again too paint it.. however this is just me thinking out side the box. And a similar experience has happened. Hope you make the right choice here, would be a nightmare to start over if it fails"

"As long as the paint you’ve put on it already is weather proofed the wood I’d leave it as long as you like the colour if not not then you can use a weatherproof paint and paint over it"

"A lacquered sealer will go over without causing paint defects . However with it being decking you need to make sure you use a sealer that won’t cure and set. As with with most this is the case . This could cause it to become slippy and become a health and safety hazard"

"the paint has to be taken off by paint removal vanish, then we repaint to get the fine colour you like."
