Replacing light switches

I want to replace my cheap plastic light switches for metal ones. Do I need an electrician or can I do this myself?

"Might be wise to hire an electrician. With it being metal you need to make sure there is an earth at the switch to earth the metal plate. You could do this but it would be advisable to hire an electrician."

"Whilst carrying out EICR inspections we come across so many installations where Class 1 (metal) equipment has been installed in place of the plastic furniture & not correctly earthed making it a potential bazaars. If you don’t know what your doing, you could be creating an issue!"

"Best is to done the job by electrician or if you have experience make sure that the switch is connected to the earth bonding"

"This is none notifiable work unless in a bathroom this means if you feel competent you can change them apart from in special areas ie the bathroom
Check with your local building control if your unsure"

Best practise is to get qualified electrician to deal with all aspects of electrical work.
It can be danger to non electrician to get involved with electrical instalation."

"Hi, I would advise getting a electrictrian to advise/install these for you as metal clad switchs/sockets need to be earthed."

"If you don't have any knowledge of electronics. Do not try this yourself . Not because of shock. Purely because you can mix things up and lights will work other lights . . A genuine nightmare for an electrician to sort out 😀"

"If your no competent on what your doing then get a electrician in as if you don’t understand unidentifiable switching lives you gonna end up with messed up wiring ⚡️⚡️

"Unless you have previous electrical experience, you should always hire a licensed electrician to complete any electrical work, including installing or replacing a light switch."
