Rendering a rough block yard wall.

I have 2meter high wall that is block on my side and brick on my neighbours. Odd I know but it was built like that. I want to render my side (block) but it rough and in some blocks have about one centimetre of face missing. Should I sand and cement those before I use OCR or what. Thank you for reading this.

"Hi I would do a sand and cement scratch coat first to ensure that the finished coat gets a good grip of the scratch coat"

"Yes, ideally you would want to repair any damaged or missing sections first before rendering. Loose material should be removed and the wall cleaned down properly so the render has a solid surface to bond to.

If some of the blocks have around 10mm missing from the face, I would normally fill and level those areas with a suitable sand and cement mix first before applying the render system. Depending on the condition of the wall, a bonding agent or scratch coat may also be recommended before the final render coat.

The key is making sure the wall is stable, clean, and as even as possible before rendering to help prevent cracking or future failure."
