Render repair or complete re render

Can render be repaired. I have some areas of render which is coming off, does it all have to be re-rendered or could it be repaired. I feel that a builder wouldn’t want to repair and therefore it would be a costly job to have the front and side of house re done. Will take advice off expert.

"Run a hammer over all of the render still attached and if it sounds hollow I’d take it all off

If it’s more hollow than not it’s not worth saving

If it sounds pretty solid over 70% of the existing render then patch work would work but it never really looks good but will do the job"

"Hi there, the render should be repairable unless it is really bad. Is it really dry and crumbling away?"

"A rendered area that has cracked needs checking all over before deciding whether it can be repaired or needs stripping off and redoing"

"Yes Render can be repaired, its ideal to use the same mix as previous render but not always possible unless original builder can come and repair for you, but short answer being yes checking for hollow render and removing the bad patches to replace with new render, not too difficult a job for someone with experience, however the patch repairs may be noticed especially in sunlight"

"Hi Lisa

Render can be repaired but only if there are area's that have blown or damaged.

If all of the render has blown ( come away or loose ) then it would need removing & starting again.

It would need to be inspected & tested onsite to know.

Many thanks

"You would need to hammer test the whole area! If hollow then these areas would need redoing! If solid it can be cut and patched in but difficult to hide completely! Consider 2pre filler over 100% to provide a uniform finish"

"To be honest if you have areas that is coming off most probably the rest of render is blown as well. My advice would be take it all of and start again. In the scratch coat whoever you get to do the render they should put mesh all over the walls to stop cracking. Good luck.
